Recycled industrial waste (sheet metal, paints, piping, etc.) for temp housing has been used in slums/favelas/barrios around the planet since cities first began to industrialize. From recycled/stolen shipyard waste in La Boca, Buenos Aires to tent cities near the ports in Manilla to tin shacks on the outskirts of Johannesburg, the poorest of poor have used made the most of their environment with shockingly innovative design. It's nice to see that professional developers (and their wealthier clients) are finally following suit.
